A is for Apple

Last week was A is for apple and Adam and Eve. Here is a snapshot of what we did.

Checking out our letter Aa basket.

Measuring our Bible Verse is serious business!

Capitals and lower case sorting.

Apple stamping!

Samuel was meant to be making a footprint apple tree, but wasn't convinced about me painting his foot. He insisted I try it first to make sure it was o.k.

Adding the finger print apples to our apple tree.

Snow box!! Lots of messy fun.

Making a paper plate apple with apple seeds.

Apple spinner graphing.

We were learning about circles this week too. What better way than making pikelets.

You're never too young for some geography!

God's Little Explorer. Z is for Zoo and T is for Tent (March 9)

God's Little Explorer Z is for Zoo (Noah) and T is for Tent (Abraham)

Marble painting Z for Zebra.

We had planned on camping outside for this week T is for tent but it just didn't happen. We had lots of play time in the tent instead.

Daddy!

Backyard science - bicarb snow foam and coloured vinegar.

T is for teepee!!

The highlight of Samuel's morning table time is pinning up his work

History (Feb 24th)

Liana and Liam are learning about Augustus Caesar and the Rise and fall of Rome for History. Pretty full on stuff! Our curriculum is literature heavy so lots or reading aloud for me. Last week we read all about Antony and Octavian conquering the world and about the December festival "Saturnalia". In honour of the god Saturn they dressed in red pointed hats, trimmed their houses with evergreen and holly branches, exchanged gifts and had a huge feast...sounds rather familiar.
We also talked about Roman houses and made some mosaics pictures.

Preschool - G is for Garden (Feb 14)

This week was a short week. Playgroup on Tuesday, homeschool support group Wednesday and a sick child today meant that we pretty much stuck with basics. Nothing too exciting to record this week.
For Samuel it was Gg week in Gods Little Explorers and the theme was Gardens. We did our usual alphabet activities but we also grew some seeds in a bag and planted a new flower garden outside.
Apart from that we have just had a nice week catching up with lots of friends!

Getting ready to grow some seeds

Checking out our seeds after 2 days!

Our favourite preschool app at the moment is Starfall.

Measuring how long our Bible verse is this week.

Samuel's display board at the end of the week.

Playgroup - Snow Week (Feb 11)

It was snow week at our homeschool playgroup this week.  Lots of fun and messy snow fun!

Playing in the"snow"the big kids got to this before the little ones even got a look!

Cotton wool snowmen.

Animals in the snow!

Playing with our snow dough sensory box.

Science (Feb 6)

For Science this year we are learning about the human body starting with a study on cells. We have been looking at the different types of cells and today we learned about cell structure. We made our own cells using ziplock bags to show the cell membrane, jelly for the cytoplasm and a grape to represent the nucleus! Then we watched Magic School bus Goes Cellular, while we ate our finished cells!!

Can you spot the nucleus?

Eating our cells!

Drawing our cells, think we may need a spelling lesson for this one

Foam Dough (Feb .6)

I am trying to do lots of sensory activities for my sensory avoider this year. Today we made foam dough with shaving cream and cornflour. It is the best stuff. Even I joined in playing with this one! The mixing process is an awesome sensory experience and then you can mould it and crumble it and put it back together again. When we were done we added water and it turned into oobleck http://sunlitpages.blogspot.com.au/2013/02/virtual-book-club-bartholomew-and.html Two activities for the price of one!!

Shaving cream and food colouring. This was fun in itself watching the colour spread.

Samuel agreed to join in if he could mix with a spoon not his hands!

adding the cornflour....

This was the reaction when he got a tiny bit of shaving cream on his hand

It quickly escalated to a complete meltdown until I reminded him he could wash his hands.

I eventually convinced him to stick his finger in

I did it! Mind you 2 seconds after the photo he jumped up to wash his finger. Still it is an improvement.

Adding water to turn it into oobleck http://sunlitpages.blogspot.com.au/2013/02/virtual-book-club-bartholomew-and.html

Just a bit of mess to clean up. Thankfully it is really easy to clean!
